Jo Kamara is a Houston-based mixed-media artist with a global client base and a portfolio site that hadn't been touched since 2019. Her work was extraordinary. The presentation was a Squarespace template from 2017. We rebuilt her digital presence as an editorial experience worthy of the art.

The challenge

Jo's existing site was costing her commissions. Collectors and galleries would visit, struggle to navigate the collection hierarchy, and leave. Bounce rate was 78%. Average session time was 42 seconds. Her Instagram was converting; her website wasn't.

Our approach

We reframed the portfolio from a grid of images to a curated editorial experience. Each collection got its own immersive landing — full-bleed photography, the story behind the work, and a clear path to commission or purchase. We built it on Next.js for speed, with server-side generation for SEO, and optimized every image for Core Web Vitals. Navigation was redesigned around the collector's journey, not the artist's ego.
